The Tommy Hilfiger and Zendaya colab at NYFW Spring/Summer 2020

An epic collaboration hit the runways of New York Fashion Week last week! We’ve seen their first collaboration but their second is just as amazing – if not better.

Designer Tommy Hilfiger and actress/singer Zendaya have recently released an explosive line that not only looks good but also makes you feel good.

Zendaya is promoting body positivity that will cater to the beauty and curves we all have. On collaborating with Zendaya, designer Tommy Hilfiger stated that “I think that Zendaya is a unique human being. She’s an activist. She brought me the whole idea of doing the ‘70s. It literally sent chills through my spine because that’s my era, that’s when I really started in the fashion business.”

The designer also added that “when she brought me ideas, I thought, ok this was going to be an incredible collaboration.”

Curve-hugging dresses and bell-bottom pants when worn, create and celebrate curves that make the general public feel extremely confident and extra beautiful.

“There are so many different body types and body shapes in my family. And I really wanted the women in my family to be able to wear my clothes and feel confident and beautiful, that’s what’s important to me,” Zendaya said in an interview.

“With the inclusion quotient, we have different ages and we think it’s important that we offer our clothes to everyone,” Tommy added.

To make things more exciting for the viewers at home, the Tommy X Zendaya fashion show was made available through virtual reality e-commerce experience. On September 8, when the fashion show started at 5.30pm, the brand used a web-based VR technology that was available by desktop and mobile at www.tommy.com. This gave real-time access to a global audience, from runways, backstage, front row, and TommyNow (a pop-up store) at the Apollo (venue) – you just need to put on your headset. The TommyNow collection does not only preview must-have looks but also made the audience feel like they were part of the ‘70s. The energy was palpable.

The pieces in the collection display confidence and empowerment. The’70s-inspired looks (in a range of burgundy, neutrals and metallics) feature plaids, polka dots, houndstooth, snake patterns, leopard prints and constellation graphics with a texture-rich mix of leather, faux fur and velvet. The collection includes apparel, swimwear, lingerie,  sleepwear set, jewelry, footwear, fedora hats, a hobo bag and a clutch.

Some styles featured Tommy Adaptive modifications, part of the brand’s line that accommodates people living with disabilities. The inclusivity of this line is endless. Truly a mesmerising collaboration from Tommy Hilfiger and Zendaya.

The collection is now available on selected Tommy stores and their website www.tommy.com.
